Mechanical design
CSL engineers have a long experience in mechanical design and analysis of space instruments and related on-ground support equipment. Engineers are used to face stringent mass limitations, highly constrained structures and strict optical stability and accuracy.
T
he drawing office takes charge of all design activities up to final manufacturing drawings with support of the engineering team. Mechanical computations can be made either internally using SolidWorks Simulation tool or in close collaboration with external company. Finite Element Analyses are conducted using SAMCEF as a baseline since this software is developed at the University of Liège but exportations and checks in NASTRAN are also standard practices.
In collaboration with optical team, our engineers are also to perform Structural, Thermal and Optical Performance analyses (STOP analyses) and are involved in standardization of thermoelastic analyses methods at European level.
