Thermal design & Analysis
CSL engineers are experts in thermal design and analysis of space instruments and related on-ground support equipment. From hot missions such as EUI on-board Solar Orbiter to cryogenic mission such as Athena X-IFU, CSL engineers are experienced in designing instruments over a very wide range of temperatures.

rom early phase studies to detailed thermal models and thermal test or even in-orbit correlations, we are able to follow projects from end to end, providing us a strong asset for our thermal modelling approach. CSL uses the standard European thermal analysis software ESATAN-TMS and has its own custom tools to model the thermal vacuum facilities. In cooperation with the optical lab, high intensity collimated solar simulators (>10 solar constants) were designed for highly representative thermal vacuum testing.
Thanks to its strong expertise in radiative heat transfer analysis, CSL also conducted several studies for terrestrial solar energy conversion applications such as concentrated solar tower power plants.
