CLASS 10 000 (ISO7) CLEAN ROOM

The five CSL facilities FOCAL X, FOCAL 5, FOCAL 3, FOCAL 2 and FOCAL 1.5 vacuum chambers and the shakers are located in rooms where the cleanliness level is permanently controlled. The complete volume is recycled 6 times per hour.

The main CSL clean rooms are :

  • class 10 000 (following the U.S standard :FED-STD-209E, imperial units).
  • M5.5 (following the U.S standard :FED-STD-209E, international unit)
  • ISO 7 (following ISO 14.644)

CLASS 100 AREA

IMG 5492s  PIC00008s

To satisfy specific requirements for a lower particulate contamination level, modular class 100 areas can be especially built and positioned in front of Focal 6.5 (530m³), Focal 5 (360 m3), Focal 3 (100 m3), Focal 2 (100 m3) and the shakers (90 m3).

Four specific ISO5 areas from 9 m2 to 16 m2 are installed in the clean rooms. These areas allow to prepare set-up, to align equipment or simply to realize activities in good cleanliness.

Cleanliness aspect in class 100

The cleanliness of the (recycled) air in the class 100 areas is ensured by horizontal laminar flow walls (air speed = 0.45+/-0.09 m/s).

These walls are composed of modules of different sizes (2.5 m x 2.5 m x 0.8 m / 2.5 x 1.25 x 0.8 m). Each module is autonomous, allowing as well a small class 100 area (with 1 module) as bigger ones by combining some modules.

Many drastic rules such as the use of dedicated garments, visual U.V, inspection for every item entering in class 100 have been adopted to reach the class 100 level. Specific procedures are issued.

Contamination control

A strict control of the cleanliness level of the clean rooms and associated areas (when applicable) is ensured by

 a) For particulate contamination

1. Airborne particles counter (METONE): one in each clean room

2. Particle fall out counter (PFOmeter).

b) For molecular contamination:

Stainless steel witness plates exposed and analysed with a FTIR, following the ESA_ECSS-Q-ST-70-01C
