EUI
The ESA Solar Orbiter mission is composed of ten scientific instruments dedicated to the observation of the Sun’s atmosphere and its heliosphere, taking advantage of an out-of-ecliptic orbit and at perihelion reaching a proximity close to 0.28 A.U.
O
n board Solar Orbiter, the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) instrument will provide Full-Sun Image (FSI) sequences of the solar corona in the extreme ultraviolet (17.1 nm and 30.4 nm), and High-Resolution Image (HRI) sequences of the solar disk in the extreme ultraviolet (17.1 nm) and in the vacuum ultraviolet (121.6 nm).
The EUI instrument is composed of two units, an Optical Bench System (OBS) and a Common Electronic Box (CEB). The OBS unit holds the three telescope channels (mirrors, cameras, filter wheels, bandpass filters, door mechanisms, entrance baffles).
The EUI instrument was developed by an European consortium lead by the Centre Spatial de Liège (CSL).
The OBS unit models have been assembled, aligned and tested at the CSL, and its STM model tested under 13 Solar Constant solar flux (17 kW/m²).
CSL was responsible for the conception, bulding and tests of an instrument called EUI. That instrument made of three imagers will take in situ images of the solar corona at different UV wavelengths. Pierre Rochus, from CSL is the PI of this experiment. We also made the optical design as well as tests of stray-light of HI, an American instrument that will also be on board Solar Orbiter.



CSL delivered the EUI instrument in May 2017 for integration onto the Solar Orbiter Spacecraft.
The launch is foreseen in February 2020.
